What are your rates?
Copywriting: My base rate is competitive at $1.10 per word. Because each project differs, I determine specific project rates through details and client asks. I can maximize your messaging clearly, concisely, and consistently. That means, while I may recommend, or you may request, a particular word count, during the writing process, I may determine your messaging requires fewer words. Should this occur, I only bill for the shorter word count. General copywriting — brochures, pamphlets, email campaigns, site copy, newsletters, social media copy, public relations materials, communication memos, and blogs — typically requires a 100-word minimum.
Creative Copy (Taglines, Tone and Voice Development, Headlines): This type of copy requires a very creative skill set and much brainstorming, so I charge an hourly rate. I base my starting rate of $88 per hour on my experience and mid-level industry averages.
Editing: My $78-per-hour base editing rate considers recommendations set out by Editors Canada, an association that promotes professional editing as key in producing effective communication. My specific hourly rate and estimated delivery times vary depending on the type of editing (e.g., copyedit vs. substantive edit), text difficulty, and my experience. I have a one-hour minimum.
Rush Projects: Rush rates are available when you need a project completed within 48 hours, excluding weekends. A rush moves your project to the top of my priority list so I can give it the immediate attention it deserves to ensure you meet your tight deadline.

what’s included in your rates?
Copywriting: My rates always include one briefing project meeting, research or interviews I conduct to craft the copy, the writing, and two edits. The included edits are your opportunity to ensure I’ve conveyed your messaging and call to action how you envisioned. While this covers changing wording or rewriting sentences, it doesn’t cover complete content rewrites. Rewriting entire paragraphs, for example, is charged at the initially quoted per-word rate.
Ad and Headline Writing: The rate includes two rounds of one to two suggestions per ad or headline.
Editing: A typical rate includes one edit and a complimentary proofread. I commonly recommend two edits. While all projects require two edits, some need more. I determine the number of edits your content requires once I see a writing sample. No matter the amount of edits, I always include a complimentary proofread.
What’s your process?
Copywriting: I tailor my writing processes to you. A standard copywriting process may look like this:
You email me describing your copywriting needs, and I send you my price list. This gives you a better idea of what to expect.
If my base rates and your budget align, we schedule a consultation (if you have more questions) or a briefing call (if you’re ready to begin). We cover details such as timeline, messaging goals, and target audience during the call. It’s also my opportunity to ask any applicable questions to get started.
I send you an email summary of our call and my quote for your project. We complete the necessary paperwork (e.g., non-disclosure agreement and/or contract). I begin the writing process.
I complete a draft, which you review and offer feedback on. I make necessary copy adjustments, if any.
If you require a second edit, we repeat Steps 4 and 5.
Editing: The editing process begins much like the copywriting process with a consultation and/or briefing call, an email summary of the call and my quote, and necessary paperwork. Here is an example of what may occur for a two-edit project:
Edit 1 includes sentence and/or paragraph structure, flow, tone, fact checking, eliminating jargon, word usage, and shortening word count. During Edit 1, I ask questions throughout the document. You should answer these questions before I begin Edit 2.
Edit 2 focuses on finer copy details such as grammar, word usage, spelling, punctuation, and other style mechanics; it also checks for consistency of mechanics and internal consistency of facts. I ask any outstanding questions to prep the copy for the complimentary proofread.
The complimentary proofread covers checking for design adherence and minor, mechanical errors in copy (such as spelling mistakes or minor style guide deviations). It may occur once your copy is laid out (e.g., in a PDF or website).
